Stop the Bus

I don't like the bus service here in Kuwait. I used to ride them when I was still in high school but I never enjoyed it. When I was in Canada I used to take the public bus everyday to school and back, and I really enjoyed it. Before I left the house I would call up this number and enter in the number of the bus stop near me, then an automated voice would tell me when the next bus would pass by. If she said 4 minutes then in exactly 4 minutes the bus would be there. This was back in 1993, imagine how things are now. In Kuwait on the other hand, riding the bus is a completely different story. Not only that but the bus drivers here are very aggressive on the road. They try to cut you off and make sudden stops.. they are a danger to everyone. I have gotten into fights with bus drivers trying to pull in infront of me soo many times its ridiculous. Where are they trained? Are they trained? In Canada also, the bus driver opens the doors to let people on or off ONLY at bus stops. He can't pull up on the side if someone is waving at him to stop, he isn't allowed to. In Kuwait bus drivers pull up like taxi drivers. Like Nibaq keeps saying, we need a subway system here.

I agree that we need a subway system but I think they would still make those unexpected stops, even underground.

I live in Canada (Ottawa), and although it sounds like the bus system is worse there, bus drivers still stop on the side of the road for people, and are late, or too early. It's not perfect, but you know. It's what we get for 50 bucks a month.

i also use the bus in canada. i'd call the transit line, punch in a couple of numbers, and if it said 9:45, it's gonna be there at 9:45. the bus is pretty cool and predictable, but at night, its the people that ride it that are unpredictable. that's the only problem i see with the buses.

We need a monorail, not subway system. Problem with subway in Kuwait is that we would have to tunnel underneath and according to civil engineers thats a mess, as well as that there is oil down there.

Monorail would be cheaper, quicker and more effective.

isn't oil found really deep under the surface?

Monorail won't work cuz in the summer it gets really hot. With the subway system people never have to go above ground. You could have the subway stations connected to the large malls and then people can just wiz from mall to mall without ever having to out in the strong heat.

Thats exactly how it is in Montreal. It could be -40 outside and you wouldnt know because you spend your whole day never going outside. Mall to Mall via subways.

actually i agree with nibaq about the monorail. it works much better than a subway in kuwait because first of all it will requre a lot and a lot of digging/tunneling which is haerd because kuwait is so condensed. second of all, even though it is hot outside, underground it's going to be hot and stuffy.

The monorail and heat isn't a problem, Dubai and Vegas are working on a monorail, and places like Bangkok have one and its icky and humid and its great.

The one in Kuwait can have AC in the waiting area and also have tunnel bridges to malls and places.

I swear the bus drivers think they are driving a porsche! The way they think they can cut off people and just stop in the middle of the road. The worst bus road ever is the road that you go to from the Sherton diwar.

Well here in Jordan the bus I take is extremely unpredictable, sometimes you wait for half an hour for one to arrive, and sometimes two arrive within 5 minutes!! You can stop the bus anywhere, and get down anywhere... and there's this policy that when the seats are full, guys are supposed to stand in the back and girls in the front, with the driver staring through his mirror the whole time!!

I wish we could have a subway system, but the infrastructure requirements are huge and I don't think it's on its way to getting done anytime soon!!
