Yo! Sushi
A new sushi place is opening up in Marina Mall in the place of the recently shutdown JAX Grill & Cafe. A lot of sushi places have been popping up in Kuwait but this new one called YO! Sushi is an international franchise with branches in England, Greece, UAE and France. So far it looks like its going to be a really funky sushi place so can't wait till it opens up. Today is Day 320 of my project.

MmMmmMMmmm.... sushi. When it gonna open?
There's one more, Genki Sushi
I read a news story about it earlier this month, it will open in Kuwait in 2006

genki looks pretty boring though compared to Yo! Sushi.
hmmm, Yo Sushi in Kuwait?!
Im not so sure this would work!
I love sushi, and I actually like Yo Sushi alot, even though it is overpriced for what it is!
I dont think it will work for 1 main reason. It is a conveyor belt style sushi place, like Kai-ten in Fanar (not sure if thats still there?)! Kai-ten actually stands for conveyor belt in Japanese.
Anyway, people in Kuwait like to look at other people and be pampered and served and feel important when they go to dinner.
Yo Sushi offers sushi that is REALLY fast! Your meal can take 5 mins! Bcz u dont really order anything, u sit down, and pick up whatever u like from the belt. This is NOT enough time to look at people, and you will not be served as much as other restaurants bcz everything is already ready!
Of course it will be packed like crazy the first few months, but that is not a measure of success here in Kuwait! Lets see if it stays for a year! I hope Im wrong, bcz I love those places, decent sushi, very fast! I was wrong about starbucks when it first opened, so I wont be surprised if im wrong about this too!
Between Yo! Sushi and Genki Sushi, Yo! wins hands down. I tried Genki a few times when I was in the far east and it was quite horrible. Yo! itself isn't as good as it used to be, but for a quick and cheap sushi meal it ain't half bad. Yo! has been doing really well in Dubai and the guy who owns the franchise there is now expanding it to Kuwait and other Arab countries.
Places like Yo! Sushi work because first they bring the people for the gimmick, not just the conveyor belt but also the quirky bells and whistles. This way they can even get people who don't like Sushi to come in and try it. The gimmick might die out later, but on the upside you will have more sushi lovers in Kuwait.
It'll open this July (2006).
